- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON COMMUNICATIONS AND TECHNOLOGY REP. MICHELE HOITENGA CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, June 16, 2021 10:30 AM Room 307, House Office Building The House Committee on Communications and Technology was called to order by Chair Hoitenga. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Hoitenga, Damoose, Griffin, Hauck, Reilly, Wozniak, Bezotte, Coleman, Haadsma, Aiyash, Scott. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Griffin moved to adopt the minutes from the June 9th, 2021 meeting. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid SB 372 before the committee: SB 372 (Sen. Horn) A bill to amend 1991 PA 179, entitled "Michigan telecommunications act," by amending section 309 (MCL 484.2309), as amended by 2011 PA 58. Melanie Rhine, representing the Office of Senator Horn, testified in support of SB 372. Gavin Goetz, representing AT&T, testified in support of SB 372. The following people submitted a card in support of SB 372, but did not wish to speak: Bob Stewart, representing Frontier Communications. Joelle Demand, representing the Telecommunications Association of Michigan. The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget (DTMB), Michigan State Police (MSP), and the National Guard laid a presentation on cybersecurity before the committee. The presentation was given by Laura Clark, DTMB Chief Security Officer for the State, Bree Anderson, DTMB Legislative Liaison, Detective First Lieutenant Jim Ellis, MSP Michigan Cyber Command, and Lt. Colonel John Brady, Michigan National Guard Commander of the 272nd Cyber Operations Squadron. There being no further business before the committee, Chair Hoitenga adjourned the meeting at 11:42 AM.
