- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORTATION REP. JACK O'MALLEY CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, September 21, 2021 10:30 AM Room 521, House Office Building The House Committee on Transportation was called to order by Chair O'Malley. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. O'Malley, Eisen, Howell, Griffin, Berman, Carra, Roth, Sneller, Clemente, Shannon, Liberati, Puri. Absent: Rep. LaFave. Excused: Rep. LaFave. Representative Shannon joined the committee remotely. Representative Carra moved to adopt the meeting minutes from September 14, 2021. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4997 and HB 4998 before the committee: HB 4997 (Rep. Sneller) A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled "Michigan vehicle code," (MCL 257.1 to 257.923) by adding section 638a. HB 4998 (Rep. O'Malley) A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled "Michigan vehicle code," by amending section 638 (MCL 257.638). Representative Sneller testified in support of HB 4997 and HB 4998. Questions and discussion followed. Sergeant Chris Gerard and Lieutenant Lance Cook, representing the Michigan State Police, testified in support of HB 4997 and HB 4998. Questions and discussion followed. The Chair laid HB 5290 before the committee: HB 5290 (Rep. O'Malley) A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled "Michigan vehicle code," by amending section 722 (MCL 257.722), as amended by 2018 PA 274. At 10:44 AM, the Chair laid the committee at ease. At 10:45 AM, the Majority Vice Chair Gary Eisen called the committee back to order. Representative Chair O'Malley testified in support of HB 5290. Ed Noyola, representing the Michigan County Road Association, testified in support of HB 5290. Questions and discussion followed. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 5290, but did not wish to speak: Troy Hagon, representing the Michigan Department of Transportation. Matt Breslin, representing the Road Commission for Oakland County. Representative Berman moved to excuse Representative LaFave from the meeting. There being no objection the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. There being no further business before the committee, Rep. Jack O'Malley adjourned the meeting at 10:49 AM.
