HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION REP. PAMELA HORNBERGER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, September 28, 2021 9:00 AM Room 521, House Office Building The House Committee on Education was called to order by Chair Hornberger. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Hornberger, Paquette, Green, Markkanen, O'Malley, Beeler, Damoose, Posthumus, Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Koleszar, Shannon, Stone. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative O'Malley moved to adopt the meeting minutes from September 21, 2021. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 5097 before the committee: HB 5097 (Rep. Beeler) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," by amending section 1278 (MCL 380.1278), as amended by 2016 PA 170. Representative Posthumus moved to report out HB 5097 with recommendation. The motion prevailed 8-5-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Hornberger, Paquette, Green, Markkanen, O'Malley, Beeler, Damoose, Posthumus. Nays: Reps. Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Koleszar, Shannon, Stone. Pass: None. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 5097, but did not wish to speak: Rachel Marcero, representing the Us Against Media. The Chair laid HB 4199 before the committee: HB 4199 (Rep. Hornberger) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," by amending section 1284a (MCL 380.1284a), as added by 2007 PA 101; and to repeal acts and parts of acts. At 9:03 a.m the Chair handed the gavel over to Vice-Chair Paquette. Representative Hornberger, testified in support of HB 4199. Questions and discussion followed. At 9:13 a.m. Vice-Chair Paquette passed the gavel back to Chair Hornberger The following people submitted a card in support of HB 4199, but did not wish to speak: Beth DeShone, representing the Great Lakes Education Project. Amy Drumm, representing the Michigan Retailers Association. John McNamara, representing the Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association. Gabe Schneider, representing Traverse City Tourism. Larisa Draves, representing the Michigan Convention and Visitors Bureaus. There being no further business before the committee, Rep. Pamela Hornberger adjourned the meeting at 9:14 AM.
