- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON FAMILIES, CHILDREN, AND SENIORS REP. RODNEY WAKEMAN CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, October 5, 2021 12:00 p.m. Room 327, House Office Building The House Committee on Families, Children, and Seniors was called to order by the Chair. The Chair requested attendance be called. The Clerk called the attendance and announced a quorum was present. Present: Reps. Wakeman, Wozniak, Rendon, Roth, Tisdel, Pohutsky, Brenda Carter, Aiyash. Absent: Rep. Camilleri. Excused: Rep. Camilleri. Representative Aiyash joined the committee remotely. Representative Wozniak moved to adopt the meeting minutes from September 28, 2021. There being no objections, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid SB 213 before the committee: SB 213 (Sen. LaSata) A bill to amend 1981 PA 180, entitled "Older Michiganians act," by amending section 6i (MCL 400.586i), as added by 1987 PA 35. Senator Kim LaSata, the bill sponsor, explained SB 213 to the committee members. Question followed. Alison Hirschel, Senior Legal Counsel for the Michigan Long Term Care Ombudsman Program, testified in support of SB 213. Questions followed. Richard Farran, Vice President of Government Services for the Health Care Association of Michigan, testified with a neutral position on SB 213. Questions followed. Karrie Craig, Assistant for the State Long Term Care Ombudsman Program for Program Quality Improvement, submitted a card in support of SB 213, but did not wish to speak. Representative Pohutsky moved to excuse Representative Camilleri from the meeting. There being no objections, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. There being no further business before the committee; Representative Roth moved that the committee adjourn.
