- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON FAMILIES, CHILDREN, AND SENIORS REP. RODNEY WAKEMAN CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, October 26, 2021 12:00 p.m. Room 327, House Office Building The House Committee on Families, Children, and Seniors was called to order by the Chair. The Chair requested attendance be called. The Clerk called the attendance and announced a quorum was present. Present: Reps. Wakeman, Wozniak, Rendon, Roth, Tisdel, Pohutsky, Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Aiyash. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Wozniak moved to adopt the meeting minutes from October 5, 2021. There being no objections, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HR 157 before the committee: HR 157 (Rep. Tisdel) A resolution to urge the members of Congress to take action to mitigate the depletion of the Social Security and Medicare Trust Funds. Representative Mark Tisdel, the resolution sponsor, explained HR 157. The Chair laid SB 213 before the committee: SB 213 (Sen. LaSata) A bill to amend 1981 PA 180, entitled "Older Michiganians act," by amending section 6i (MCL 400.586i), as added by 1987 PA 35. Lenna Schafer, Legislative Director for Senator Kim LaSata, the bill sponsor, explained the (H-1) for SB 213 to the committee members. A question followed. Representative Roth moved to adopt substitute (H-1) to SB 213. The motion prevailed 9-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Wakeman, Wozniak, Rendon, Roth, Tisdel, Pohutsky, Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Aiyash. Nays: None. Pass: None. Jean Doss, representing the Sally Pung, Michigan's State Long Term Care Ombudsman, and Michigan Elder Justice Initiative, submitted a card in support of SB 213, but did not wish to speak. Representative Roth moved to report out SB 213 with recommendation, as substitute (H-1). The motion prevailed 9-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Wakeman, Wozniak, Rendon, Roth, Tisdel, Pohutsky, Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Aiyash. Nays: None. Pass: None. There being no further business before the committee; Representative Rendon moved that the committee adjourn.
