- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORTATION REP. JACK O'MALLEY CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, November 2, 2021 10:30 AM Room 521, House Office Building The House Committee on Transportation was called to order by Chair O'Malley. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. O'Malley, Eisen, Howell, Griffin, Berman, Carra, Roth, Sneller, Clemente, Shannon, Liberati, Puri. Absent: Rep. LaFave. Excused: Rep. LaFave. Representative Eisen moved to adopt the meeting minutes from October 26, 2021. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 5327 before the committee: HB 5327 (Rep. Hope) A bill to amend 2001 PA 142, entitled "Michigan memorial highway act," by amending section 67 (MCL 250.1067), as added by 2003 PA 195. Representative Hope, joined by Rachel Starr, wife of Trooper Caleb H. Starr, testified in support of HB 5327. Questions and discussion followed. Representative Sneller moved to report out HB 5327 with recommendation. The motion prevailed 12-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. O'Malley, Eisen, Howell, Griffin, Berman, Carra, Roth, Sneller, Clemente, Shannon, Liberati, Puri. Nays: None. Pass: None. The following people submitted a card with a neutral position on HB 5327, but did not wish to speak: Troy Hagon, representing the Michigan Department of Transportation. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 5327, but did not wish to speak: Trooper Travis Fletcher, representing the Michigan State Police. The Chair laid HB 5370 before the committee: HB 5370 (Rep. VanSingel) A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled "Michigan vehicle code," (MCL 257.1 to 257.923) by adding section 649a. Representative VanSingel testified in support of HB 5370. Questions and discussion followed. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 5370, but did not wish to speak: Chris Gerard, representing the Michigan State Police. Representative Berman moved to excuse Representative LaFave from the meeting. There being no objection the motion prevailed by unanimous consent.
