- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON JUDICIARY REP. GRAHAM FILLER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, November 30, 2021 9:00 AM Room 519, House Office Building The House Committee on Judiciary was called to order by the Chair Filler. The clerk read a resignation letter from Representative Wozniak. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Filler, Mueller, Steven Johnson, Kahle, Rendon, Berman, Clements, LaGrand, Yancey, Bolden, Hope, Breen. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representatives Berman, Yancey and Bolden joined the committee remotely. Representative Mueller moved to adopt the meeting minutes from November 9, 2021. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 5272 before the committee: HB 5272 (Rep. Eisen) A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled "Michigan vehicle code," by amending section 907 (MCL 257.907), as amended by 2020 PA 382, and by adding sections 2c and 627c. Representative Eisen, testified in support of HB 5272. Questions and discussion followed. Jonathan Byrd, representing Michigan LiUNA, testified in support of HB 5272. Questions and discussion followed. William Miller, representing the Operating Engineers 324, testified in support of HB 5272. Questions and discussion followed. Sergeant Nicole McGhee and Trooper Travis Fletcher, both representing the Michigan State Police, testified with a neutral position on HB 5272. Questions and discussion followed. Lance Binoniemi, representing the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association (MITA), testified in support of HB 5272. Representative Fink; Cami Pendell, General Counsel, representing the Michigan Supreme Court; and Maribeth Graff, representing the Board of Law Examiners, testified together in support of HB 5541. Questions and discussion followed. Kellie Early, representing the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE), testified in support of HB 5541.
