HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION REP. PAMELA HORNBERGER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, February 15, 2022 9:00 AM Room 521, House Office Building The House Committee on Education was called to order by Chair Hornberger. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Hornberger, Paquette, Green, Markkanen, O'Malley, Beeler, Damoose, Posthumus, Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Koleszar, Shannon, Stone. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Shannon joined the committee remotely. Representative Markkanen moved to adopt the meeting minutes from February 8, 2022. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 5703 before the committee: HB 5703 (Rep. Glenn) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," (MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 10a. Representative Stone offered the following amendment to HB 5703: 1-. Amend page 1, line 3, after "of" by striking out the balance of the line through "directors." on page 2 line 7 and inserting "the state constitution of 1963 is distributed at each meeting of the board of the school district or intermediate school district or board of directors of the public school academy, as applicable.". Representative Stone moved to adopt the amendment to HB 5703. The motion did not prevail 5-6-1: UNFAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Damoose, Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Koleszar, Stone. Nays: Reps. Hornberger, Paquette, Green, Markkanen, O'Malley, Beeler. Pass: Rep. Posthumus. Representative Paquette moved to report out HB 5703 with recommendation. The motion prevailed 10-2-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Hornberger, Paquette, Green, Markkanen, O'Malley, Beeler, Damoose, Posthumus, Camilleri, Koleszar. Nays: Reps. Brenda Carter, Stone. Pass: None. The following person submitted a card in support of HB 5703, but did not wish to speak: Dan Jarvis, representing the Michigan Family Forum. The Chair laid HB 5722 before the committee: HB 5722 (Rep. Eisen) A bill to amend 1979 PA 94, entitled "The state school aid act of 1979," (MCL 388.1601 to 388.1896) by adding section 99d.
