HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON FAMILIES, CHILDREN, AND SENIORS REP. RODNEY WAKEMAN CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, February 22, 2022 12:00 p.m. Room 327, House Office Building The House Committee on Families, Children, and Seniors was called to order by the Chair. The Chair requested attendance be called. The Clerk called the attendance and announced a quorum was present. Present: Reps. Wakeman, Meerman, Rendon, Roth, Tisdel, Pohutsky, Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Aiyash. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Meerman moved to adopt the meeting minutes from February 8, 2022. There being no objections, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 5461, HB 5462 and HB 5463 before the committee: HB 5461 (Rep. Steven Johnson) A bill to amend 1939 PA 280, entitled "The social welfare act," (MCL 400.1 to 400.119b) by adding section 14n. HB 5462 (Rep. Outman) A bill to amend 1939 PA 280, entitled "The social welfare act," by amending section 105c (MCL 400.105c), as added by 2013 PA 107. HB 5463 (Rep. Outman) A bill to amend 1939 PA 280, entitled "The social welfare act," by amending section 10f (MCL 400.10f), as added by 2013 PA 41. Peter Ruark, Senior Policy Analyst at the Michigan League for Public Policy, testified and submitted written testimony in opposition to HB 5461. Adam Carlson, Senior Vice President of Advocacy at Michigan Health and Hospital Association, submitted a card in opposition to HB 5462 , but did not wish to speak. Representative Roth moved to report out HB 5461 with recommendation. The motion prevailed 5-4-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Wakeman, Meerman, Rendon, Roth, Tisdel. Nays: Reps. Pohutsky, Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Aiyash. Pass: None. Representative Rendon moved to report out HB 5462 with recommendation. The motion prevailed 5-4-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Wakeman, Meerman, Rendon, Roth, Tisdel. Nays: Reps. Pohutsky, Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Aiyash. Pass: None. Representative Tisdel moved to report out HB 5463 with recommendation. The motion prevailed 5-4-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Wakeman, Meerman, Rendon, Roth, Tisdel. Nays: Reps. Pohutsky, Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Aiyash. Pass: None. The Chair laid HB 5675 before the committee: HB 5675 (Rep. Peterson) A bill to amend 1846 RS 83, entitled "Of marriage and the solemnization thereof," by amending sections 7 and 16 (MCL 551.7 and 551.16), section 7 as amended by 2014 PA 278 and section 16 as amended by 2006 PA 419. Representative Aiyash moved to refer House Bill No. 5675 to the Committee on Judiciary. The motion prevailed 9-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Wakeman, Meerman, Rendon, Roth, Tisdel, Pohutsky, Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Aiyash. Nays: None. Pass: None. There being no further business before the committee; Representative Meerman moved that the committee adjourn.
