- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON COMMERCE AND TOURISM REP. PAULINE WENDZEL CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, March 15, 2022 9:00 AM Room 327, House Office Building The House Committee on Commerce and Tourism was called to order by Chair Wendzel. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Wendzel, Roth, Alexander, Farrington, Wakeman, Martin, Cambensy, Cherry, Manoogian, Liberati. Absent: Rep. Whitsett. Excused: Rep. Whitsett. Representative Cambensy joined the committee remotely. Representative Roth moved to adopt the meeting minutes from February 1, 2022. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 5656 before the committee: HB 5656 (Rep. Rogers) A bill to amend 1984 PA 270, entitled "Michigan strategic fund act," by amending sections 90a and 90b (MCL 125.2090a and 125.2090b), section 90a as amended by 2017 PA 239 and section 90b as amended by 2018 PA 423. Representative Rogers testified in support of HB 5656. Questions and discussion followed. The following person submitted a card in support of HB 5656, but did not wish to speak: Greg Bird, representing the Michigan Department of Economic Development Corporation. The Chair laid SB 791 before the committee: SB 791 (Sen. Horn) A bill to amend 1936 (Ex Sess) PA 1, entitled "Michigan employment security act," by amending section 28 (MCL 421.28), as amended by 2021 PA 66. Maggie Leonard, representing Senator Horn's Office, and Rachel Wineland, representing the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency, testified in support of SB 791. Questions and discussion followed. The following people submitted a card in support of SB 791, but did not wish to speak: Wendy Block, representing the Michigan Chamber of Commerce. David Worthams, representing the Michigan Manufactures Association. Representative Manoogian moved to excuse Representative Whitsett from the meeting. There being no objection the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. There being no further business before the committee, Chair Wendzel adjourned the meeting at 9:20 AM.
