- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON OVERSIGHT REP. STEVEN JOHNSON CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Thursday, March 17, 2022 10:30 AM Room 326, House Office Building The House Committee on Oversight was called to order by Chair Steven Johnson. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Steven Johnson, Outman, Hoitenga, Reilly, Yaroch, O'Malley, Brixie, LaGrand, Young. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Reilly moved to adopt the meeting minutes from March 10, 2022. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 5802 and HB 5803 before the committee: HB 5802 (Rep. Steven Johnson) A bill to amend 1976 PA 267, entitled "Open meetings act," by amending section 2 (MCL 15.262), as amended by 2001 PA 38. HB 5803 (Rep. Cynthia Johnson) A bill to amend 1976 PA 442, entitled "Freedom of information act," by amending section 2 (MCL 15.232), as amended by 2018 PA 68. At 10:31 AM, the Chair laid the committee at ease. Vice Chair Outman took over the gavel, the time being 10:31. At 10:31 AM, Vice Chair Outman called the committee back to order. Chair Steven Johnson and Representative Cynthia Johnson testified in support of HB 5802 and HB 5803. Questions and discussion followed. At 10:59 AM, Vice Chair Outman laid the committee at ease. Chair Johnson returned to the gavel, the time being 11:00. At 11:00 AM, the Chair called the committee back to order. Kirk Profit and Peter Ruddell, representing the Detroit Zoological Society and the Detroit Institute of Arts, testified in opposition to HB 5802 and HB 5803. Questions and discussion followed. The following person submitted a card in support of HB 5802 and HB 5803, but did not wish to speak: Lisa McGraw, representing the Michigan Press Association.
