GRAHAM FILLER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, May 3, 2022 9:00 AM Room 519, House Office Building The House Committee on Judiciary was called to order by Chair Filler. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Filler, Mueller, Griffin, Steven Johnson, Kahle, Rendon, Berman, Clements, LaGrand, Yancey, Bolden, Hope, Breen. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representatives Berman, Yancey, Bolden and Hope joined the committee remotely. Representative Mueller moved to adopt the meeting minutes from April 26, 2022. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 5982 and SB 996 before the committee: HB 5982 (Rep. Bellino) A bill to amend 1978 PA 368, entitled "Public health code," by amending section 7453 (MCL 333.7453), as added by 1988 PA 139. SB 996 (Sen. Chang) A bill to amend 1978 PA 368, entitled "Public health code," by amending section 7453 (MCL 333.7453), as added by 1988 PA 139. Representative Bellino and Senator Chang testified in support of HB 5982 and SB 996. Questions and discussion followed. Huizenga) A bill to amend 1986 PA 268, entitled "Legislative council act," (MCL 4.1101 to 4.1901) by amending the title, as amended by 2018 PA 638, and by adding chapter 8A. SB 995 (Sen. Alexander) A bill to prohibit the commencement of civil actions relating to opioids by certain governmental officers and entities. Senator Alexander testified in support of SB 995. The following people submitted a card in support of SB 993, SB 994 and SB 995, but did not wish to speak: Rebecca Mastee, representing the Michigan Catholic Conference. Representative Mueller testified in support of HB 4239.
