- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON AGRICULTURE REP. JULIE ALEXANDER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, May 4, 2022 10:30 AM Room 326, House Office Building The House Committee on Agriculture was called to order by Majority Vice Chair Posthumus. At 10:31 AM, Majority Vice Chair Posthumus laid the committee at ease. At 11:03 AM, the Chair called the committee back to order. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Alexander, Posthumus, Bellino, Rendon, Filler, Carra, Garza, Cambensy, Hope, Witwer. Absent: Rep. Puri. Excused: Rep. Puri. Representative Filler moved to adopt the meeting minutes from March 16, 2022. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 5893 before the committee: HB 5893 (Rep. Witwer) A bill to amend 1964 PA 283, entitled "Weights and measures act," by amending sections 2, 9a, 9b, 24, 27, 28c, 28e, 28f, 31, and 31a (MCL 290.602, 290.609a, 290.609b, 290.624, 290.627, 290.628c, 290.628e, 290.628f, 290.631, and 290.631a), sections 2, 9a, and 9b as amended by 2012 PA 253, section 28c as amended by 2016 PA 464, section 28e as amended by 2012 PA 469, section 28f as added by 2017 PA 168, and sections 31 and 31a as amended by 2012 PA 254. Representative Posthumus offered the following amendment to HB 5893: 1. Amend page 12, line 24, after "reference." by striking out the balance of the line through "2023." on line 27. Representative Posthumus moved to adopt the amendment to HB 5893. The motion prevailed 10-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Alexander, Posthumus, Bellino, Rendon, Filler, Carra, Garza, Cambensy, Hope, Witwer. Nays: None. Pass: None. Representative Posthumus moved to refer House Bill No. 5893 to the Committee on Judiciary, with recommendation, as amended, as substitute (H-2). The motion prevailed 9-1-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Alexander, Posthumus, Bellino, Rendon, Filler, Garza, Cambensy, Hope, Witwer. Nays: Rep. Carra. Pass: None. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 5893, but did not wish to speak: Don Onwiler, representing the National Council on Weights and Measures. Representative Garza moved to excuse Representative Puri from the meeting. There being no objection the motion prevailed by unanimous consent.
