PAMELA HORNBERGER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, May 17, 2022 9:00 AM Room 521, House Office Building The House Committee on Education was called to order by Chair Hornberger. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Hornberger, Green, Markkanen, O'Malley, Beeler, Damoose, Posthumus, Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Koleszar, Shannon, Stone. Absent: Rep. Paquette. Excused: Rep. Paquette. Representative Beeler moved to adopt the meeting minutes from May 10, 2022. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 6013 before the committee: HB 6013 (Rep. Hornberger) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," (MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1531e. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 6013, but did not wish to speak: Peter Spadafore, representing the Middle Cities Education Association. Jennifer Smith, representing the Michigan Association of School Boards. Dr. Sheryl Kennedy, representing the Michigan Department of Education. Bob Kefgen, representing the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals. Representative Green moved to report out HB 6013 with recommendation. The motion prevailed 12-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Hornberger, Green, Markkanen, O'Malley, Beeler, Damoose, Posthumus, Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Koleszar, Shannon, Stone. Nays: None. Pass: None. The Chair laid HB 6039 and HB 6040 before the committee: HB 6039 (Rep. Wendzel) A bill to amend 2000 PA 258, entitled "Career and technical preparation act," by amending section 5 (MCL 388.1905). HB 6040 (Rep. Morse) A bill to amend 1996 PA 160, entitled "Postsecondary enrollment options act," by amending section 5 (MCL 388.515). The following person submitted a card in support of HB 6039 and HB 6040, but did not wish to speak: Dr. Sheryl Kennedy, representing the Michigan Department of Education. Representative Markkanen moved to report out HB 6039 with recommendation. The motion prevailed 12-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Hornberger, Green, Markkanen, O'Malley, Beeler, Damoose, Posthumus, Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Koleszar, Shannon, Stone. Nays: None. Pass: None. Representative Camilleri moved to report out HB 6040 with recommendation. The motion prevailed 12-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Hornberger, Green, Markkanen, O'Malley, Beeler, Damoose, Posthumus, Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Koleszar, Shannon, Stone. Nays: None. Pass: None. Representative Posthumus moved to excuse Representative Paquette from the meeting. There being no objection the motion prevailed by unanimous consent.
