BEAU MATTHEW LAFAVE CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, May 24, 2022 12:00 PM Room 307, House Office Building The House Committee on Military, Veterans and Homeland Security was called to order by Chair LaFave. At 12:00 PM, the Chair laid the committee at ease. At 12:07 PM, the Chair called the committee back to order. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. LaFave, Beeler, Eisen, Bezotte, Martin, Rogers, Anthony, Coleman, Steenland. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Rogers moved to adopt the meeting minutes from April 12, 2022. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 5883 and HB 5884 before the committee: HB 5883 (Rep. Berman) A bill to amend 1931 PA 328, entitled "The Michigan penal code," by amending sections 227 and 231a (MCL 750.227 and 750.231a), section 227 as amended by 1986 PA 8 and section 231a as amended by 2012 PA 427. HB 5884 (Rep. Berman) A bill to amend 1927 PA 175, entitled "The code of criminal procedure," by amending section 16m of chapter XVII (MCL 777.16m), as amended by 2018 PA 637. The following person submitted a card in support of HB 5883 and HB 5884, but did not wish to speak: Brady Schickinger, representing the Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners. LaFave, Beeler, Eisen, Bezotte, Martin, Anthony. Nays: Reps. Rogers, Coleman, Steenland. Pass: None. Representative Beeler moved to withdraw the motion to report HB 5883. The motion prevailed without objection. At 12:24 PM, the Chair laid the committee at ease. At 12:25 PM, the Chair called the committee back to order. Representative Beeler moved to refer HB 5883 to the Committee on Judiciary, with recommendation as substitute (H-1). The motion prevailed 9-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps.
