- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON ENERGY REP. JOE BELLINO CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, May 25, 2022 9:00 AM Room 519, House Office Building The House Committee on Energy was called to order by Chair Bellino. The Clerk read a letter from House Speaker Jason Wentworth which removed Representative Berman and appointed Representative Harris to the House Energy Committee. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Bellino, Markkanen, Hoitenga, Reilly, Beeler, Martin, Outman, Roth, Harris, Manoogian, Sneller, Cherry, Haadsma, Morse, Puri, Scott. Absent: Rep. Paquette. Excused: Rep. Paquette. Representative Cherry moved to adopt the meeting minutes from May 4, 2022. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 6067 before the committee: HB 6067 (Rep. VanSingel) A bill to amend 1994 PA 451, entitled "Natural resources and environmental protection act," by amending section 502 (MCL 324.502), as amended by 2004 PA 587. Representative VanSingel testified in support of HB 6067. Taylor Ridderbusch, Legislative Laison, and Scott Whitcomb, Director of the Office of Public Lands, both representing the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, testified in support of HB 6067. Questions and discussion followed. Gary Melow, representing Michigan Biomass, testified in support of HB 6067. Questions and discussion followed. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 6067, but did not wish to speak: Winston Feeheley, representing DTE. Rich Bowman, representing The Nature Conservancy. Doug Roberts, representing Consumers Energy. Joe Doyle, representing the Michigan Association of Timbermen. The following people submitted a card in opposition to HB 6067, but did not wish to speak: Tim Minotas, representing the Sierra Club Michigan Chapter. Representative Martin moved to excuse Representative Paquette from the meeting. There being no objection the motion prevailed by unanimous consent.
