BETH GRIFFIN CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Thursday, May 26, 2022 9:00 a.m. Room 327, House Office Building The House Committee on Workforce, Trades, and Talent was called to order by the Chair. The Chair requested attendance be called. The Clerk called the attendance, and a quorum was present. Present: Reps. Griffin, Martin, Howell, Farrington, Markkanen, Sabo, Hope, O'Neal. Absent: Rep. Eisen. Excused: Rep. Eisen. Representative Sabo moved to adopt the meeting minutes from May 19, 2022. There being no objections, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 6086 and HB 6088 before the committee: HB 6086 (Rep. Yaroch) A bill to amend 1978 PA 368, entitled "Public health code," by amending sections 20904, 20912, 20950, 20952, and 20954 (MCL 333.20904, 333.20912, 333.20950, 333.20952, and 333.20954), sections 20904, 20912, and 20954 as amended by 2000 PA 375, section 20950 as amended by 2021 PA 25, and section 20952 as added by 1990 PA 179. HB 6088 (Rep. Markkanen) A bill to amend 1978 PA 368, entitled "Public health code," by amending section 20952 (MCL 333.20952), as added by 1990 PA 179. Michael Krombeen, representing the Lake Michigan College, submitted a card in support of HB 6086 and HB 6088, but did not wish to speak. Ramiro Galvan, Director of Legislative Affairs for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, submitted a card in opposition to HB 6086, but did not wish to speak. Representative Howell moved to report out HB 6086 with recommendation. The motion prevailed 8-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Griffin, Martin, Howell, Farrington, Markkanen, Sabo, Hope, O'Neal. Griffin) A bill to amend 1943 PA 240, entitled "State employees' retirement act," by amending section 68c (MCL 38.68c), as amended by 2020 PA 314. The Chair laid the committee at ease. Majority Vice Chair Martin called the committee back to order. The Chair, the bill sponsor, explained HB 6132. Majority Vice Chair Martin laid the committee at ease. The Chair called the committee back to order. Ron Brenke, Executive Director for the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), testified in support of HB 6132. Todd Tennis representing the Coalition for Secure Retirement -Michigan testified with a neutral position on HB 6132. Questions followed. The following individuals submitted a card in opposition as written to HB 6132, but did not wish to speak: Bree Anderson, Legislative Affairs Director for the State of Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, and Anthony J Estell, Executive Director of the Michigan Office of Retirement Services (ORS). Mary Pollock, Legislative Chair for the Michigan State Employee Retirees Association, submitted a card in support of HB 6132, but did not wish to speak. Lance Binoniemi, Vice President of Government Affairs at Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association, submitted a card in support of HB 6132, but did not wish to speak. Representative Martin moved to excuse Representative Eisen from the meeting. There being no objections, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. There being no further business before the committee; Representative Markkanen moved that the committee adjourn.
