MIKE MUELLER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, June 14, 2022 12:00 PM Room 308, House Office Building The House Committee on Government Operations was called to order by Chair Mueller. At 12:00 PM, the Chair laid the committee at ease. At 12:04 PM, the Chair called the committee back to order. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Mueller, VanWoerkom, Hauck, Cherry, Rabhi. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Cherry moved to adopt the meeting minutes from May 19, 2022. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4596 before the committee: HB 4596 (Rep. Peterson) A bill to designate the official native grain of this state. Representative Peterson and Joe Taylor, from Representative Peterson's office, testified in support of HB 4596. Questions and discussion followed. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 4596, but did not wish to speak: Whitney Gravelle, representing the Bay Mills Indian Community. At 12:11 PM, the Chair laid the committee at ease. At 12:12 PM, the Chair called the committee back to order. The Chair laid HB 5244, HB 6215 and HB 6128 before the committee: HB 5244 (Rep. Fink) A bill to repeal 2020 PA 238, entitled "An act to prohibit an employer from taking certain actions against an employee who does not report to work under certain circumstances related to COVID-19; to prohibit an employee from reporting to work under certain circumstances related to COVID-19; to prohibit discrimination and retaliation for engaging in certain activities; and to provide remedies," (MCL 419.401 to 419.413). HB 6215 (Rep. Filler) A bill to amend 2020 PA 236, entitled "COVID-19 response and reopening liability assurance act," by amending section 10 (MCL 691.1460). HB 6128 (Rep. Rabhi) A bill to amend 1974 PA 154, entitled "Michigan occupational safety and health act," by repealing sections 85 and 85a (MCL 408.1085 and 408.1085a). The Chair made remarks pertaining the the package of bills and proposed changes. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 5244, HB 6215 and HB 6128, but did not wish to speak: Wendy Block, representing the Michigan Chamber of Commerce. Amanda Fisher, representing the NFIB. Alexa Kramer, representing the SBAM. David Worthams, representing the Michigan Manufacturers Association. With the withdrawal of substitute (H-1) to HB 5244, Representative Rahbi's proposed amendment falls. Representative Cherry moved to withdrawn substitute (H-2) to HB 5244.
