PAMELA HORNBERGER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, June 21, 2022 9:00 AM Room 521, House Office Building The House Committee on Education was called to order by Chair Hornberger. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Hornberger, Paquette, Green, O'Malley, Beeler, Damoose, Posthumus, Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Koleszar, Shannon, Stone. Absent: Rep. Markkanen. Excused: Rep. Markkanen. Representative Posthumus moved to adopt the meeting minutes from June 7, 2022. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid SB 600, SB 601, SB 602 and SB 603 before the committee: SB 600 (Sen. Theis) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," by amending section 1177 (MCL 380.1177), as amended by 2013 PA 121, and by adding sections 1177b and 1177c. SB 601 (Sen. Theis) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," (MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding sections 1136a and 1136b. SB 602 (Sen. Barrett) A bill to amend 1978 PA 368, entitled "Public health code," (MCL 333.1101 to 333.25211) by adding section 5111a. SB 603 (Sen. LaSata) A bill to amend 1978 PA 368, entitled "Public health code," by amending sections 2253 and 2453 (MCL 333.2253 and 333.2453), section 2253 as amended by 2006 PA 157. The following person submitted a card in opposition to SB 600, SB 601, SB 602 and SB 603, but did not wish to speak: Sierra Cameron, representing the Michigan Chapter of American Academy of Pediatrics. Representative O'Malley moved to report out SB 600 with recommendation. The motion prevailed 7-5-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Hornberger, Paquette, Green, O'Malley, Beeler, Damoose, Posthumus. Nays: Reps. Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Koleszar, Shannon, Stone. Pass: None. Representative Beeler moved to report out SB 601 with recommendation. The motion prevailed 7-5-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Hornberger, Paquette, Green, O'Malley, Beeler, Damoose, Posthumus. Nays: Reps. Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Koleszar, Shannon, Stone. Pass: None. Representative Beeler moved to report out SB 602 with recommendation. The motion prevailed 7-5-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Hornberger, Paquette, Green, O'Malley, Beeler, Damoose, Posthumus. Nays: Reps. Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Koleszar, Shannon, Stone. Pass: None. Representative Beeler moved to report out SB 603 with recommendation. The motion prevailed 7-5-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Hornberger, Paquette, Green, O'Malley, Beeler, Damoose, Posthumus. Nays: Reps. Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Koleszar, Shannon, Stone. Pass: None. Representative Paquette moved to excuse Representative Markkanen from the meeting. There being no objection the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. There being no further business before the committee, Chair Hornberger adjourned the meeting at 9:17 AM.
