BEAU MATTHEW LAFAVE CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, September 20, 2022 12:00 PM Room 307, House Office Building The House Committee on Military, Veterans and Homeland Security was called to order by Chair LaFave. At 12:01 PM, the Chair laid the committee at ease. At 12:02 PM, the Chair called the committee back to order. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. LaFave, Eisen, Bezotte, Martin, Rogers, Anthony, Coleman, Steenland. Absent: Rep. Beeler. Excused: None. Representatives Eisen, Anthony, Coleman and Steenland joined the committee remotely. The Chair laid SB 530 before the committee: SB 530 (Sen. Zorn) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," (MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1138a. Shane Preston, representing Senator Zorn, testified in support of SB 530. Questions and discussion followed. The following person submitted a card in support of SB 530, but did not wish to speak: Heather Feuerstein, representing the Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. The Chair laid SB 971 before the committee: SB 971 (Sen. VanderWall) A bill to provide for a military veterans cemetery; to create the veterans cemetery fund; to authorize the purchase of land; and to provide for the powers and duties of certain state governmental officers and entities. Jamie Callahan, representing Senator VanderWall, testified in support of SB 971. Cary Jansen, representing Crawford County, testified in support of SB 971. The following person submitted a card with a neutral position on SB 971, but did not wish to speak: Heather Feuerstein, representing the Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. LaFave) A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled "Michigan vehicle code," by amending sections 674, 675, 801, 803f, and 805 (MCL 257.674, 257.675, 257.801, 257.803f, and 257.805), section 674 as amended by 2000 PA 268, section 675 as amended by 2018 PA 179, section 801 as amended by 2020 PA 103, section 803f as amended by 2018 PA 681, and section 805 as amended by 2013 PA 82, and by adding section 68c. Beau LaFave testified in support of HB 5308. Questions and discussion followed. The following person submitted a card in support of HB 5308, but did not wish to speak: Heather Feuerstain, representing the Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. At 12:33 AM, Rep. Luke Grzywacz, representing Representative Beeler, testified in support of HB 5939. Questions and discussion followed.
