BEAU MATTHEW LAFAVE CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, September 28, 2022 8:00 AM Room 307, House Office Building The House Committee on Military, Veterans and Homeland Security was called to order by Representative Eisen. At 8:00 AM, Rep. Eisen laid the committee at ease. At 8:11 AM, the Chair called the committee back to order. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. LaFave, Beeler, Eisen, Bezotte, Martin, Rogers, Anthony, Coleman, Steenland. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Bezotte moved to adopt the meeting minutes from June 7, 2022. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. Representative Steenland moved to adopt the meeting minutes from September 20, 2022. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 5308 before the committee: HB 5308 (Rep. LaFave) A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled "Michigan vehicle code," by amending sections 674, 675, 801, 803f, and 805 (MCL 257.674, 257.675, 257.801, 257.803f, and 257.805), section 674 as amended by 2000 PA 268, section 675 as amended by 2018 PA 179, section 801 as amended by 2020 PA 103, section 803f as amended by 2018 PA 681, and section 805 as amended by 2013 PA 82, and by adding section 68c. Jenita Moore representing the Michigan Department of State - Secretary of State testified in opposition to HB 5308. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 5308, but did not wish to speak: Jim Sigmon, representing the Military Officers Association of America - Commanders Group. Tim Poxson, representing the American Legion- Department of Michigan. Representative Bezotte moved to adopt substitute (H-5) to HB 5308. The motion prevailed 6- 0-3: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. The Chair invited Tim Poxson to give a presentation honoring committee members for their service on the Military, Veterans, and Homeland Security committee.
