- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON INSURANCE REP. DAIRE L RENDON CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Thursday, February 21, 2019 9:00 a.m. Room 521, House Office Building The House Standing Committee on Insurance was called to order by Chairwoman Rendon. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Rendon, Markkanen, Webber, Vaupel, Bellino, Frederick, Hoitenga, LaFave, Berman, Paquette, Wittenberg, Gay-Dagnogo, Lasinski, Sneller, Bolden, B. Carter, Coleman. Absent/Excused: None. Representative Wittenberg moved to adopt the meeting minutes from February 14, 2019. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4044 before the committee: HB 4044 (Rep. Hoitenga) A bill to amend 1956 PA 218, entitled "The insurance code of 1956,"by amending sections 1205 and 1239 (MCL 500.1205 and 500.1239), section 1205 as amended by 2008 PA 422 and section 1239 as amended by 2008 PA 423. Representative Hoitenga, joined by Greg Winkelmann, representing himself, testified in support of the bill. Questions and discussion followed. Karin Gyger, Manager of Insurance Policy and Research, and Michelle Riddering, Director of the Office of Insurance Licensing and Market Conduct, both representing the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Service, testified with no position on the bill. Questions and discussion followed. Marcia Hune, representing the Life Insurance Association of Michigan, submitted a card opposing the bill, but did not wish to speak. The following people submitted a card with a neutral position on the bill, but did not wish to speak: Matt Solak, representing the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors of Michigan. Ryan Burtka, representing the Michigan Association of Health Underwriters. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair adjourned the meeting at 09:27 AM.
