- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION REP. PAMELA HORNBERGER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, February 26, 2019 09:00 AM Room 521, House Office Building The House Standing Committee on Education was called to order by Chairman Hornberger. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Hornberger, Paquette, Crawford, Vaupel, Reilly, Hall, Markkanen, O'Malley, Wakeman, Camilleri, Sowerby, B. Carter, T. Carter, Koleszar, Stone. Absent/Excused: None. Representative Crawford moved to adopt the meeting minutes from February 19th, 2019. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4162 before the committee: HB 4162 (Rep. Reilly) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," by amending section 1279g (MCL 380.1279g), as amended by 2016 PA 170, and by adding section 1279i. Kathy Berry, representing herself, spoke in support of the bill. Chris Glass, representing Michigan Talent Triangle, spoke in support of the bill. David Zualke, representing Middle Cities Education Association, submitted a card in support of the bill, but did not wish to speak. Bill Zaagman, representing ACT, submitted a card in opposition to the bill, but did not wish to speak. Representative Reilly moved to refer House Bill No. 4162 to the committee on Ways and Means with recommendation. The motion prevailed 13-2-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Hornberger, Paquette, Crawford, Vaupel, Reilly, Markkanen, O'Malley, Wakeman, Camilleri, Sowerby, B. Carter, T. Carter, Koleszar. Nays: Reps. Hall, Stone. Pass: None.
