- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON FAMILIES, CHILDREN, AND SENIORS REP. KATHY CRAWFORD CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, March 6, 2019 9:00 AM Room 308, House Office Building The House Standing Committee on Families, Children, and Seniors was called to order by Chairman Crawford. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Crawford, Rendon, Hoitenga, Meerman, Wozniak, Garrett, Liberati, Carter, Johnson. Absent/Excused: None. The Chair opened a discussion on Global Age-friendly Cities. Copies of her handouts are attached. Representative Meerman moved to adopt the meeting minutes from 02/27/2019 09:00 AM. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid before the committee a presentation on Child Care Licensing. Mark C. Jansen, Director of the Child Care Licensing Division in the Bureau of Community and Health Systems in the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, introducedKatrice Sweet, M.A., Area Manager in the Child Care Licensing Division. Director Jansen provided an overview of his division. Questions followed. Ms. Sweet addressed a member’s question. A copy of the department’s PowerPoint is attached. The Chair laid before the committee presentation by the Michigan Department of Education on Child Care Programs. Lisa Brewer Walraven, Director of Child Development and Care in the Office of Great Start in theMichigan Department of Education, introduced Scott M. Koenigsknecht, Deputy Superintendent of P-20 System and Student Transitions in the Superintendent’s Office of the Michigan Department of Education, who updated the committee on the department’s childcare programs. Ms. Brewer-Walraven provided an overview of child and development and care funding. A copy of her PowerPoint presentation is attached. Questions followed.
