HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON FAMILIES AND VETERANS REP. KATHY SCHMALTZ CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, August 19, 2025 Noon. Room 307, House Office Building The House Committee on Families and Veterans was called to order by Chair Schmaltz. The Chair requested attendance to be called: Present: Reps. Schmaltz, Wozniak, Fox, Johnsen, Thompson, Pavlov, Woolford, Young, Byrnes and Xiong. Absent: Rep. Rheingans. Excused: Rep. Rheingans. Representative Pavlov moved to excuse Representative Rheingans from the meeting. There being no objection the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4750 before the committee: HB 4750 (Rep. Schmaltz) A bill to amend 1994 PA 203, entitled "Foster care and adoption services act," (MCL 722.951 to 722.960) by adding section 8f. At 12:07 PM, the Chair laid the committee at ease. At 12:08 PM, Majority Vice Chair Wozniak called the committee back to order. Representative Schmaltz testified in support of HB 4750. Questions and discussions followed. At 12:24 PM, Majority Vice Chair Wozniak laid the committee at ease. At 12:25 PM, the Chair called the committee back to order. Representative Thompson moved to adopt the meeting minutes from August 12, 2025. There being no objection, the motion prevailed with unanimous consent. Steve Castle, representing the Jackson Interface Shelter, testified in support of HB 4750. Questions and discussions followed. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 4750, but did not wish to speak: Bobby Dorigo Jones, representing the Michigan Association of United Ways. Elizabeth Henderson, representing the Michigan Federation for Children and Families. Elinor Jordan, representing the Michigan Poverty Law Program.
