- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON WAYS AND MEANS REP. BRANDT IDEN CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Thursday, March 21, 2019 10:30 a.m. Room 352, House Appropriations, State Capitol Building The House Standing Committee on Ways and Means was called to order by Chairman Iden. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Iden, Lilly, Leutheuser, Griffin, Hauck, Kahle, Wentworth, Warren, Byrd, Neeley, Hertel. Absent/Excused: None. The Chair laid HB 4226 before the committee: HB 4226 (Rep. Berman) A bill to amend 1961 PA 236, entitled “Revised judicature act of 1961,"by amending section 3240 (MCL 600.3240), as amended by 2014 PA 431. Representative Lilly offered the following amendment to HB 4226: 1. Amend page 2, line 20, by striking out “$200.00” and inserting “$250.00”. Representative Lilly moved to adopt the amendment to HB 4226. The motion prevailed 11-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Representative. Iden, Lilly, Leutheuser, Griffin, Hauck, Kahle, Wentworth, Warren, Byrd, Neeley, Hertel. Nays: None. Pass: None. Rep. Lilly moved to report House Bill No. 4226 as amended, as substitute (H-1) with recommendation. The motion prevailed 11-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Representative. Iden, Lilly, Leutheuser, Griffin, Hauck, Kahle, Wentworth, Warren, Byrd, Neeley, Hertel. Nays: None. Pass: None. The Chair laid HB 4162 before the committee: HB 4162 (Rep. Reilly) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled “The revised school code,” by amending section 1279g (MCL 380.1279g), as amended by 2016 PA 170, and by adding section 1279i. Representative Reilly and Representative Hornberger testified in support of HB 4162. Questions and discussion followed. Bob Kefgen, representing the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals. The following people submitted a card in opposition of HB 4162, but due to the time constraints were unable to speak: Kevin Stotts, representing the Talent 2025. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 4162, but did not wish to speak: David Randels, representing the Oakland Schools. Caroline Liethen, representing the Michigan Department of Education. Peter Spadafore, representing the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators. Patti Tremblay, representing the Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators. The following people submitted a card in opposition of HB 4162, but did not wish to speak: Noah Smith, representing the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters. Lance Binoniemi, representing the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association. Representative Warren moved to adopt the meeting minutes from March 19th, 2019. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. There being no further business before the committee, Rep. Brandt Iden adjourned the meeting at 11:57 AM.
