- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON COMMUNICATIONS AND TECHNOLOGY REP. MICHELE HOITENGA CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, April 17, 2019 12:00 PM Room 327, House Office Building The House Standing Committee on Communications and Technology was called to order by the Majority Vice Chair. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Hoitenga, S Johnson, Wozniak, Coleman, Chirkun. Absent/Excused: None. Representative Wozniak moved to adopt the minutes from the April 10th, 2019 meeting. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4249 before the committee: HB 4249 (Rep. Hoitenga) A bill to amend 1986 PA 32, entitled “Emergency 9-1-1 service enabling act,“ by amending section 413 (MCL 484.1413), as amended by 2008 PA 379; and to repeal acts and parts of acts. Representative Hoitenga moved to adopt substitute (H-1) to HB 4249. The motion prevailed 5-0- 0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Hoitenga, S Johnson, Wozniak, Coleman, Chirkun. Nays: None. Pass: None. Charles Owens, representing the National Federation of Independent Business, testified with a neutral position on HB 4249. Questions and discussion followed. Pat Coates and Jordyn Sellek, Michigan Communications Directors Association, testified with a neutral position on HB 4249. Chairwoman Michele Hoitenga testified in support of HB 4249. Dan Hamstra, representing Andrews University, testified in support of HB 4249. The following people submitted a card with a neutral position on HB 4249, but did not wish to speak: Micah Babcock, representing the Small Business Association of Michigan. Mike Johnstonq, representing the Michigan Manufacturers Association. Andy Johnston, representing the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce. Dan Papineau, representing the Michigan Chamber of Commerce. Amy Drumm, representing the Michigan Retailers Association. Matt Wesolek, representing the Michigan Association of Insurance Agents. Tpr. Nicole McGhee, representing the Michigan State Police. Stephanie Johnson, representing the Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 4249, but did not wish to speak: Bob Stewart, representing Frontier Communications. There being no further business before the committee, Rep.
