PAMELA HORNBERGER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, April 23, 2019 9:00 AM Room 521, House Office Building The House Standing Committee on Education was called to order by the Chair. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Hornberger, Paquette, Crawford, Vaupel, Reilly, Hall, Markkanen, O'Malley, Wakeman, Camilleri, Sowerby, B Carter, T Carter, Koleszar, Stone. Absent/Excused: None. Representative Wakeman moved to adopt the meeting minutes from April 16, 2019. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid SB 0122 and SB 0202 before the committee: SB 0122 (Sen. Horn) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled “The revised school code,” by amending section 1249 (MCL 380.1249), as amended by 2018 PA 235. SB 0202 (Sen. Horn) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled “The revised school code,” by amending section 1249b (MCL 380.1249b), as added by 2015 PA 173. Senator Horn testified in support of SB 0122 and SB 0202. Questions and discussion followed. Beth DeShone, representing the Great Lakes Education Project, testified with no position of SB 0122 and SB 0202. Bob Kefgen, representing the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals, testified in support of SB 0122 and SB 0202. Questions and discussion followed. Brian Gutman, representing the Michigan Education Trust Midwest, testified in opposition of SB 0122 and SB 0202. Jerry Johnson, representing the Barry, Branch, Calhoun, Jackson, Lenawee, and Monroe Intermediate School Districts. Representative Crawford moved to refer Senate Bill No. 122 to the committee on Ways and Means. The motion prevailed 14-1-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Hornberger, Paquette, Crawford, Vaupel, Reilly, Markkanen, O'Malley, Wakeman, Camilleri, Sowerby, B Carter, T Carter, Koleszar, Stone. Nays: Rep. Hall. Pass: None. Representative Paquette moved to refer Senate Bill No. 202 to the committee on Ways and Means. The motion prevailed 14-1-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps.
