Absent/Excused: None. Representative O'Malley moved to adopt the meeting minutes from April 30, 2019. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4368 and HB 4369 before the committee: HB 4368 (Rep. Hornberger) A bill to amend 1979 PA 94, entitled “The state school aid act of 1979,"by repealing section 160 (MCL 388.1760). Representative Sowerby spoke to his amendment. Representative Sowerby offered the following amendments to HB 4282 (H-1): 1. Amend page 4, line 23, after "(2)" by inserting "In addition to the requirements under subsection (1), beginning with pupils entering grade 3 in 2006, KINDERGARTEN IN 2020, the board of a school district or board of directors of a public school academy shall not award a high school diploma to a pupil unless the pupil has successfully completed during grades K to 12 at least 2 credits that are 1 CREDIT THAT IS grade-appropriate in a language other than English, AS DESCRIBED IN SECTION 1278F, or course work or other ANOTHER learning experiences that are EXPERIENCE THAT IS substantially equivalent to 2 credits 1 CREDIT in a language other than English, based on guidelines developed by the department.". 2. Amend page 5, line 14, after "to" by striking out "6." and inserting "8.". Representative Sowerby moved to adopt the amendments to HB 4282 (H-1).
