- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON AGRICULTURE REP. JULIE ALEXANDER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, May 8, 2019 10:30 AM Room 326, House Office Building The House Standing Committee on Agriculture was called to order by the Chair. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Alexander, LaFave, Eisen, Wendzel, Elder, Coleman, Garza, C Johnson, Witwer. Absent/Excused: Reps. Meerman, Mueller. Representative LaFave moved to adopt the meeting minutes from May 1, 2019. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid the presentation from the Dairy Farmers of America before the committee. Director of Operations and Business Development Scott Corrin, and Northwest Region Manager for the Mideast Area Chuck Courtade, both representing the Dairy Farmers of America, provided a presentation regarding the Dairy Farmers of America in Michigan and Project Spartan. Questions and discussion followed. The Chair laid the presentation from the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development before the committee. Food and Dairy Division Director Tim Slawinski, representing the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, provided a presentation regarding the Department’s Food and Dairy Division and covered the following topics: Michigan’s Food and Agriculture Industry; Food and Dairy Division Mission; Structure; Our Role; Food Program; Food Inspector Staffing Numbers; Food Inspections; Michigan’s Dairy Industry; Trends in Dairy Farming; the Department’s Dairy Program; Licensing and Inspections System; and Other Programs. Questions and discussion followed. Representative Eisen moved to excuse Representatives Meerman and Mueller from the meeting. There being no objection the motion prevailed by unanimous consent.
