KATHY CRAWFORD CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, May 22, 2019 9:00 AM Room 308, House Office Building The House Standing Committee on Families, Children, and Seniors was called to order by the Chair Crawford. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Crawford, Rendon, Hoitenga, Meerman, Wozniak, Garrett, B Carter, C Johnson. Absent/Excused: Rep. Liberati. Representative B Carter moved to adopt the meeting minutes from May 15, 2019. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4223 before the committee: HB 4223 (Rep. VanSingel) A bill to amend 1978 PA 368, entitled “Public health code,” by amending the heading of part 93 and sections 9307 and 9321 (MCL 333.9307 and 333.9321), and by adding sections 9312 and 9316. The Chair offered and explained the substitute (H-1) for House Bill 4223. Representative Wozniak moved to adopt substitute (H-1) to HB 4223. The motion prevailed 7-0- 0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Crawford, Rendon, Hoitenga, Meerman, Wozniak, B Carter, C Johnson. Nays: None. Pass: None. Representative Hoitenga moved to refer House Bill No. 4223 to the committee on Ways and Means, with recommendation as substitute (H-1). The motion prevailed 6-1-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Crawford, Rendon, Hoitenga, Wozniak, B Carter, C Johnson. Nays: Rep. Meerman. Pass: None. The Chair laid HB 4406 before the committee: HB 4406 (Rep. Markkanen) A bill to amend 2008 PA 525, entitled “Fostering futures scholarship trust fund act,” by amending section 7b (MCL 722.1027b), as added by 2014 PA 530. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 4406, but did not wish to speak: Dan Jarvis, representing the Director of Research and Public Policy for Michigan Family Forum. Representative Rendon moved to refer House Bill No. 4406 to the committee on Ways and Means. The motion prevailed 7-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Crawford, Rendon, Hoitenga, Meerman, Wozniak, B Carter, C Johnson. Nays: None. Pass: None. The Chair laid HB 4128 before the committee: HB 4128 (Rep. Miller) A bill to amend 1939 PA 288, entitled “Probate code of 1939,"by amending section 1 of chapter XI (MCL 711.1), as amended by 2000 PA 111. Marla Braun, Legislative Assistant for Representative Aaron G. Miller, the bill sponsor, testified in support of HB 4128. Representative Garrett moved to excuse Representative Liberati from the meeting. There being no objection the motion prevailed by unanimous consent.
