HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION REP. PAMELA HORNBERGER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, September 24, 2019 9:00 AM Room 521, House Office Building The House Standing Committee on Education was called to order by Chair Hornberger. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Hornberger, Paquette, Crawford, Vaupel, Reilly, Hall, Markkanen, O'Malley, Wakeman, Camilleri, Sowerby, Tyrone Carter, Koleszar, Stone. Absent/Excused: Rep. Brenda Carter. Representative Paquette moved to adopt the meeting minutes from September 10, 2019. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4546 and HB 4547 before the committee: HB 4546 (Rep. Kahle) A bill to amend 2000 PA 258, entitled "Career and technical preparation act," by amending sections 3 and 4 (MCL 388.1903 and 388.1904), section 3 as amended by 2012 PA 132 and section 4 as amended by 2012 PA 133. HB 4547 (Rep. Frederick) A bill to amend 1996 PA 160, entitled "Postsecondary enrollment options act," by amending sections 3 and 4 (MCL 388.513 and 388.514), section 3 as amended by 2018 PA 11 and section 4 as amended by 2012 PA 134. Representative Crawford moved to adopt substitute (H-1) to HB 4546. The motion prevailed 10- 0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Hornberger, Paquette, Crawford, Vaupel, Reilly, Markkanen, O'Malley, Sowerby, Tyrone Carter, Koleszar. Nays: None. Pass: None. Representative O'Malley moved to adopt substitute (H-1) to HB 4547. The motion prevailed 10- 0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Hornberger, Paquette, Crawford, Vaupel, Reilly, Markkanen, O'Malley, Sowerby, Tyrone Carter, Koleszar. Nays: None. Pass: None. Representative Kahle, Representative Frederick, and Kyle Griffith, representing Lenawee County Intermediate School District, testified in support of HB 4546 and HB 4547. Brian Broderick, representing the Michigan Association of Non-Public Schools. Representative Vaupel moved to excuse Representative Brenda Carter from the meeting. There being no objection the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. There being no further business before the committee, Rep. Pamela Hornberger adjourned the meeting at 9:16 AM.
