PAMELA HORNBERGER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, January 14, 2020 9:00 AM Room 521, House Office Building The House Standing Committee on Education was called to order by Chair Hornberger. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Hornberger, Paquette, Crawford, Vaupel, Reilly, Hall, Markkanen, O'Malley, Wakeman, Camilleri, Sowerby, Brenda Carter, Tyrone Carter, Koleszar, Stone. Absent/Excused: None. Representative O'Malley moved to adopt the meeting minutes from December 10, 2019. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid SB 650 and SB 651 before the committee: SB 650 (Sen. Theis) A bill to amend 1979 PA 94, entitled "The state school aid act of 1979," by amending section 23a (MCL 388.1623a), as amended by 2018 PA 586. SB 651 (Sen. Moss) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," by amending section 1231 (MCL 380.1231), as amended by 2018 PA 235, and by adding section 1230i. Senator Moss testified in support of SB 650 and SB 651. Questions and discussion followed. Greg Harp, representing Graduation Alliance, testified in support of SB 650 and SB 651. Questions and discussion followed. The following people submitted a card in support of SB 650 and SB 651, but did not wish to speak: Peter Spadafore, representing the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators. Representative Camilleri moved to refer Senate Bill No. 650 to the committee on Ways and Means. The motion prevailed 15-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Hornberger, Paquette, Crawford, Vaupel, Reilly, Hall, Markkanen, O'Malley, Wakeman, Camilleri, Sowerby, Brenda Carter, Tyrone Carter, Koleszar, Stone. Nays: None. Pass: None. Representative Camilleri moved to refer Senate Bill No. 651 to the committee on Ways and Means. The motion prevailed 15-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps.
