- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON NATURAL RESOURCES AND OUTDOOR RECREATION REP. GARY HOWELL CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, January 14, 2020 12:00 PM Room 326, House Office Building The House Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation was called to order by Chair Howell. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Howell, Wakeman, Reilly, Rendon, Eisen, Sowerby, Cambensy, Pohutsky. Absent/Excused: Rep. Calley. Representative Cambensy moved to adopt the minutes from the December 10th, 2019 meeting. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HR 154 before the committee: HR 154 (Rep. Johnson) A resolution to encourage the National Park Service to establish a moose tag lottery hunt to assist in controlling the moose population on Isle Royale. Representative Johnson testified in support of HR 154. Questions and discussion followed. Amy Trotter, representing Michigan United Conservation Clubs, testified in support of HR 154. The following people submitted a card in opposition to HR 154, but did not wish to speak: Tim Minotas, representing the Michigan Sierra Club. Sean Hammond, representing the Michigan Environmental Council. The Chair laid HR 157 before the committee: HR 157 (Rep. Tate) A resolution to memorialize the President and Congress of the United States to increase funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative to $475 million per year. Representative Tate testified in support of HR 157. Questions and discussion followed. Marc Smith, representing the National Wildlife Federation, testified in support of HR 157. Amy Trotter, representing the Michigan United Conservation Clubs, testified in support of HR 157. The following people submitted a card in support of HR 157, but did not wish to speak: Sarah Howes, representing the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes & Energy. Tim Minotas, representing the Michigan Sierra Club. Sean Hammond, representing the Michigan Environmental Council. Brad Williams, representing the Detroit Regional Chamber. Herasanna Richards, representing the Michigan Municipal League. Representative Wakeman moved to excuse Representative Calley from the meeting. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. There being no further business before the committee, Chair Howell adjourned the meeting at 12:40 PM.
