HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON TAX POLICY REP. LYNN AFENDOULIS CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, January 22, 2020 10:30 AM Room 521, House Office Building The House Standing Committee on Tax Policy was called to order by Chair Afendoulis. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Afendoulis, Lower, Vaupel, Webber, Farrington, Steven Johnson, Hall, O'Malley, Schroeder, Yancey, Wittenberg, Ellison, Lasinski, Robinson, Whitsett. Absent/Excused: None. Representative Vaupel moved to adopt the meeting minutes from January 15, 2020. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 5059 before the committee: HB 5059 (Rep. Slagh) A bill to amend 1996 PA 381, entitled "Brownfield redevelopment financing act," (MCL 125.2651 to 125.2670) by adding section 15b. Representative Slagh testified in support of HB 5059. Questions and discussion followed. Peter Haines, representing the Ottawa County Intermediate School District, testified in support of HB 5059. Questions and discussion followed. Chris Glass, representing Michigan Talent Triangle, testified in support of HB 5059. Questions and discussion followed. Rachel Richards, representing the Michigan Department of Treasury, testified in opposition to HB 5059. Questions and discussion followed. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 5059, but did not wish to speak: Jerry Johnson, representing the Calhoun, Barry, Branch, Calhoun, Jackson, Lenawee, Monroe Intermediate School Districts. Bill Miller, representing the Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators. Matt Kurta, representing the Education Savings Account Legislative Group. Peter Spadafore, representing the Michigan Association of School Administrators and Superintendents. Jeff Cobb, representing the Michigan Association of School Boards.
