- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON ELECTIONS AND ETHICS REP. JULIE CALLEY CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, February 5, 2020 10:30 AM Room 327, House Office Building The House Standing Committee on Elections and Ethics was called to order by Chair Calley. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Calley, Sheppard, Hornberger, Marino, Paquette, Guerra, Hope. Absent/Excused: None. Representative Paquette moved to adopt the minutes from the January 22nd, 2020. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid SB 117 and SB 297 before the committee: SB 117 (Sen. Johnson) A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled "Michigan election law," by amending section 759a (MCL 168.759a), as amended by 2012 PA 523. SB 297 (Sen. Wojno) A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled "Michigan election law," (MCL 168.1 to 168.992) by adding section 18a. Garrett Wheat and Bill Drake, representing the Offices of Senator Johnson and Senator Wojno, testified in support of SB 117 and SB 297. Questions and discussion followed. Mary Clark and Evan Hope, representing the Michigan Association of Municipal Clerks, testified in support of SB 117 and SB 297. Adam Reames, representing the Michigan Department of State, testified with no position on SB 117 and SB 297. Questions and discussion followed. Justin Roebuck, representing the Council of Election Officials, testified in support of SB 117 and SB 297. Questions and discussion followed.
