STEVE MARINO CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Thursday, February 20, 2020 9:00 a.m. Room 327, House Office Building The House Standing Committee on Commerce and Tourism was called to order by the Chair Marino. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Marino, Wendzel, Reilly, Schroeder, Wakeman, Wozniak, Cambensy, Camilleri, Hope, Manoogian, Robinson. Absent/Excused: None. Representative Schroeder moved to adopt the meeting minutes from January 16, 2020. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HR 216 before the committee: HR 216 (Rep. Anthony) A resolution to urge Major League Baseball to continue its support for minor-league baseball teams. Representative Sarah Anthony explained HR 126, and introduced the Mayor of the City of Lansing, Andy Schor, who testified in support of HR 216. Questions and discussion followed. The following individuals submitted a testimony card in support of HR 216, but did not wish to speak: John Lindley, representing the Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance; Eric Friedman, Director of State Government Affairs at The Dow Chemical Company, representing the Lansing Lugnuts, Great Lakes Loons, and West Michigan White Caps teams; and Steve Japinga, Vice President of Public Affairs for Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce. Stamas) A bill to amend 1978 PA 255, entitled "Commercial redevelopment act," by amending section 18 (MCL 207.668), as amended by 2008 PA 227. John Avery, Executive Director for the Michigan Economic Developers Association, submitted a testimony card in support of SB 493 and SB 494, but did not wish to speak. The following individuals submitted a testimony card in support of SB 493, but did not wish to speak: Malinda Jensen, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs for Detroit Economic Growth Corporation; Nicole Nystrom, representing the Quicken Loans; and Mary Myers, Director of Business Development for Lake Superior Community Partnership. The following individuals submitted a testimony card in support of SB 306, but did not wish to speak: John Avery, Executive Director for the Michigan Economic Developers Association, and Greg Bird, Managing Director of Legislative and External Affairs at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. Representative Wakeman moved to adopt substitute (H-1) to SB 306. The motion prevailed 11-0- 0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps.
