KATHY CRAWFORD CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, February 26, 2020 9:00 a.m. Room 308, House Office Building The House Standing Committee on Families, Children, and Seniors was called to order by the Chair. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Crawford, Rendon, Farrington, Hoitenga, Wozniak, Liberati, Brenda Carter. Absent/Excused: Reps. Garrett, Cynthia Johnson. Representative Hoitenga moved to adopt the meeting minutes from February 19, 2020. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 5443 and HB 5444 before the committee: HB 5443 (Rep. Crawford) A bill to create the kinship caregiver advisory council; to prescribe the membership of the council; to prescribe the powers and duties of the kinship caregiver advisory council; to prescribe the powers and duties of certain state departments and agencies; to allow for appropriations to carry out the provisions of this act; and to promulgate rules to carry out the purposes of this act. HB 5444 (Rep. Liberati) A bill to create the kinship caregiver navigator program; to provide for resources and services for kinship caregivers; to make appropriations for the kinship caregiver navigator program; and to prescribe the powers and duties for certain state departments and agencies. The Chair offered and explained the (H-1) substitute to HB5443. Representative Brenda Carter moved to adopt substitute (H-1) to HB 5443. The motion prevailed 7-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Crawford, Rendon, Farrington, Hoitenga, Wozniak, Liberati, Brenda Carter. Nays: None. Pass: None. Representative Farrington moved to refer HB 5443 to the Committee on Ways and Means, with recommendation as substitute (H-1). The motion prevailed 7-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Crawford, Rendon, Farrington, Hoitenga, Wozniak, Liberati, Brenda Carter. Nays: None. Pass: None. Representative Liberati moved to refer HB 5444 to the Committee on Ways and Means. The motion prevailed 7-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Crawford, Rendon, Farrington, Hoitenga, Wozniak, Liberati, Brenda Carter. Nays: None. Pass: None. The Chair laid before the committee a presentation on Age-Friendly Health Systems in Michigan. Adam Carlson, Senior Director of Government and Political Affairs at Michigan Health and Hospital Association, introduced Ewa Panetta, Manager of the Age-Friendly Health Systems for the Michigan Health and Hospital Association-Keystone Center, who did a PowerPoint presentation on creating Age-Friendly Health Systems in Michigan. Questions and discussion followed. A copy of the PowerPoint and her handout is attached. Representative Brenda Carter moved to excuse Representatives Garrett and Cynthia Johnson from the meeting. There being no objection the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. There being no further business before the committee, Representative Rendon moved to adjourn the committee. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent.
