DAIRE L RENDON CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Thursday, March 5, 2020 9:00 AM Room 521, House Office Building The House Standing Committee on Insurance was called to order by Chair Rendon. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Rendon, Markkanen, Webber, Vaupel, Bellino, Frederick, Hoitenga, LaFave, Berman, Paquette, Wittenberg, Gay-Dagnogo, Lasinski, Rabhi, Sneller, Brenda Carter, Coleman. Absent/Excused: None. Representative Markkanen moved to adopt the meeting minutes from February 6, 2020. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid SB 172 before the committee: SB 172 (Sen. Stamas) A bill to amend 1956 PA 218, entitled "The insurance code of 1956," by amending section 513 (MCL 500.513), as added by 2001 PA 24. The Chair explained the proposed substitute (H-1) to SB 172. Representative Brenda Carter moved to adopt substitute (H-1) to SB 172. The motion prevailed 17-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Rendon, Markkanen, Webber, Vaupel, Bellino, Frederick, Hoitenga, LaFave, Berman, Paquette, Wittenberg, Gay-Dagnogo, Lasinski, Rabhi, Sneller, Brenda Carter, Coleman. Nays: None. Pass: None. Representative Wittenberg moved to refer Senate Bill No. 172 to the Committee on Ways and Means, with recommendation as substitute (H-1). The motion prevailed 16-1-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Rendon, Markkanen, Webber, Vaupel, Bellino, Frederick, Hoitenga, LaFave, Berman, Paquette, Wittenberg, Gay-Dagnogo, Lasinski, Sneller, Brenda Carter, Coleman. Nays: Rep. Rabhi. Pass: None. The following people submitted a card in support of SB 172, but did not wish to speak: Marcia Hune, representing the Life Insurance Association of Michigan. Jeff McAlvey, representing the Insurance Alliance of Michigan. There being no further business before the committee, Rep. Daire Rendon adjourned the meeting at 9:05 AM.
