KATHY CRAWFORD CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, June 17, 2020 12:00 p.m. Room 521, House Office Building The House Committee on Families, Children, and Seniors was called to order by the Chair. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Crawford, Rendon, Farrington, Hoitenga, Wozniak, Liberati, Brenda Carter, Cynthia Johnson. Absent: Rep. Garrett. Excused: Rep. Garrett. The Chair laid HB 4783 and HB 5474 before the committee: HB 4783 (Rep. Kahle) A bill to amend 1931 PA 328, entitled "The Michigan penal code," by amending section 136b (MCL 750.136b), as amended by 2016 PA 488. HB 5474 (Rep. Calley) A bill to amend 1927 PA 175, entitled "The code of criminal procedure," by amending section 16g of chapter XVII (MCL 777.16g), as amended by 2018 PA 374. Substitute (H-1) to HB 4783 and substitute (H-1) to HB 5474 were previously adopted on May 27, 2020. Rebecca J. Mastee, J.D., Policy Advocate for the Michigan Catholic Conference, submitted a card in support of HB 4783 (H-1) and HB 5474 (H-1), but did not wish to speak. Representative Brenda Carter moved to refer House Bill No. 4783 to the Committee on Judiciary, with recommendation as substitute (H-1). The motion prevailed 8-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Crawford, Rendon, Farrington, Hoitenga, Wozniak, Liberati, Brenda Carter, Cynthia Johnson. Nays: None. Pass: None. Representative Rendon moved to refer House Bill No. 5474 to the Committee on Judiciary, with recommendation as substitute (H-1). The motion prevailed 8-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Crawford, Rendon, Farrington, Hoitenga, Wozniak, Liberati, Brenda Carter, Cynthia Johnson. Nays: None. Pass: None. Representative Liberati moved to excuse Representative Garrett from the meeting. There being no objection the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. There being no further business before the committee. Representative Wozniak moved to adjourned.
