HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON ELECTIONS AND ETHICS REP. JULIE CALLEY CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, June 23, 2020 2:30 PM Room 327, House Office Building The House Committee on Elections and Ethics was called to order by the Chair Calley. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Calley, Sheppard, Hornberger, Marino, Paquette, Guerra, Hope. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Sheppard moved to adopt the minutes from the March 11th, 2020 meeting. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid SB 756 before the committee: SB 756 (Sen. Johnson) A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled "Michigan election law," by amending section 765a (MCL 168.765a), as added by 2018 PA 123. Senator Johnson testified in support of SB 756 (H-1). Questions and discussion followed. Chris Swope & Mary Clark, representing the Michigan Association of Municipal Clerks, testified in support of SB 756 (H-1). Questions and discussion followed. The following person submitted a card in support of SB 756 (H-1), but did not wish to speak: Tom Frazier, representing the Michigan Townships Association. Jenita Moore, representing the Michigan Department of State. Representative Paquette moved to adopt substitute (H-1) to SB 756. The motion prevailed 7- 0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Calley, Sheppard, Hornberger, Marino, Paquette, Guerra, Hope. Nays: None. Pass: None. Representative Marino moved to refer Senate Bill No. 756 to the Committee on Ways and Means, with recommendation as substitute (H-1). The motion prevailed 7-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Calley, Sheppard, Hornberger, Marino, Paquette, Guerra, Hope. Nays: None. Pass: None. The Chair laid HB 5123 before the committee: HB 5123 (Rep. Bollin) A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled "Michigan election law," by amending section 765a (MCL 168.765a), as added by 2018 PA 123. Representative Bollin testified in support of HB 5123 (H-1).
