HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON ELECTIONS AND ETHICS REP. JULIE CALLEY CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, September 15, 2020 10:15 AM Room 521, House Office Building The House Committee on Elections and Ethics was called to order by Chair Calley. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Calley, Sheppard, Hornberger, Marino, Guerra, Hope. Absent: Rep. Paquette. Excused: Rep. Paquette. Representative Sheppard moved to adopt the minutes from the September 9th, 2020 meeting. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 5665 and HB 5666 before the committee: HB 5665 (Rep. Yaroch) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," by amending sections 619 and 1107 (MCL 380.619 and 380.1107), as added by 2004 PA 234. HB 5666 (Rep. Yaroch) A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled "Michigan election law," by amending sections 207, 268, 327, 369, and 383 (MCL 168.207, 168.268, 168.327, 168.369, and 168.383), section 327 as amended by 1982 PA 505 and section 383 as amended by 2018 PA 120. Representative Yaroch testified in support of HB 5665 and HB 5666. Questions and discussion followed. The Chair laid HB 6177, HB 6178, HB 6179, HB 6180 and HB 6181 before the committee: HB 6177 (Rep. Hall) A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled "Michigan election law," by amending section 510 (MCL 168.510). HB 6178 (Rep. Calley) A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled "Michigan election law," by amending section 509bb (MCL 168.509bb), as added by 1994 PA 441. HB 6179 (Rep. Marino) A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled "Michigan election law," (MCL 168.1 to 168.992) by adding section 33a. HB 6180 (Rep. Liberati) A bill to amend 1978 PA 472, entitled "An act to regulate political activity; to regulate lobbyists, lobbyist agents, and lobbying activities; to require registration of lobbyists and lobbyist agents; to require the filing of reports; to prescribe the powers and duties of the department of state; to prescribe penalties; and to repeal certain acts and parts of acts," by amending section 8 (MCL 4.418), as amended by 1994 PA 412. HB 6181 (Rep. Sabo) A bill to amend 1976 PA 388, entitled "Michigan campaign finance act," by amending section 16 (MCL 169.216), as amended by 2017 PA 184.
