BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7670 FAX: (517) 373-5958 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES April 11, 2019 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety was scheduled for Thursday, April 11, 2019, at 8:30 a.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 84, SB's 90-102 the “Raise The Age” package. The Chairman called the meeting to order at 8:33 a.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chairman Lucido, Sen.(s) VanderWall, Johnson, Runestad, Chang and Irwin, a quorum was present. The Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. VanderWall to adopt the meeting minutes from March 14, 2019. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chairman brought up SB’s 84 and 90-102, the Raise The Age package. The Chairman invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB’s 84 and 90-102, the Raise The Age package: Judge Dorene S. Allen, Michigan Probate Judges Association – Oppose Wendy Campau, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services – No Position Sandi Metcalf, Michigan Association for Family Court Administrators – Support Meghann Keit, Michigan Association of Counties – No Position At 8:58 a.m., Sen. Barrett entered the meeting. The cards were read of those individuals not wishing to present testimony regarding SB’s 84 and 90-102, the Raise The Age package: Brandon Lanyon, Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan – Support Judy Karandjeff, League of Women Voters of Michigan – Support Kahryn Riley, Mackinac Center for Public Policy – Support Mark McWilliams, Michigan Protection and Advocacy Service - Support The Chairman offered an (S-1) version to SB 84. The Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. VanderWall to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 84. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chairman Lucido, Sen.(s) VanderWall, Barrett, Johnson, Runestad, Chang, and Irwin Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. The Chairman offered an (S-1) version to SB 90. The Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. Barrett to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 90. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chairman Lucido, Sen.(s) VanderWall, Barrett, Johnson, Runestad, Chang, and Irwin Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted.
