BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7840 FAX: (517) 373-3932 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES April 23, 2019 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Oversight was scheduled for Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at 2:00 p.m., in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Presentation from Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. The Chairman called the meeting to order at 2:01 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chairman McBroom, Sen.(s) Lucido, Theis, MacDonald, and Irwin, a quorum was present. The Chairman invited the committee to recite the Pledge of Alliance. The Chairman recognized Sen. Runestad had joined the committee. The Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. Lucido to adopt the meeting minutes from April 9, 2019. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chairman invited Attorney General Dana Nessel to give a presentation regarding hate crimes in Michigan and the Office of the Attorney General Hate Crimes Unit. Attorney General Nessel was joined by Assistant Attorney General Sunito Doddamani, Head of the Hate Crimes Unit. Questions from members followed. The Chairman recognized Sens. Barrett, Lauwers, Moss and Rep. Wittenberg attended the meeting. The Chairman invited Sen. Moss and Rep. Wittenberg to introduce Rene Lichtman, a Holocaust survivor, to speak regarding Attorney General Nessels’ presentation. There being no further business before the committee, the Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. Irwin to adjourn the meeting.
