BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-1636 FAX: (517) 373-1453 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES May 8, 2019 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Elections was scheduled for Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at 2:00 p.m., in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Adopted the Committee Rules. 2. Testimony regarding SB 117 (S-1) (Sen. Johnson). 3. Testimony regarding SB 297 (Sen. Wojno). The Chair called the meeting to order at 2:02 p.m. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Johnson, Sen.(s) McBroom, Lucido, and Wojno, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. McBroom to adopt the committee rules. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Johnson, Sen.(s) McBroom, Lucido, and Wojno Nays: None The motion prevailed and the rules were adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. McBroom to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen. VanderWall was excused from the meeting. The Chair offered, and summarized, an (S-1) version of SB 117. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. McBroom to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 117. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Johnson, Sen.(s) McBroom, Lucido, and Wojno Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. The Chair invited Sen. Wojno to summarize SB 297. Page 1 of 2 The following individuals were invited to present testimony regarding SB 117: Jenita Moore, Michigan Secretary of State – Neutral The following individuals were invited to present testimony regarding SB 117 and SB 297: Mary Clark and Chris Swope, Michigan Association of Municipal Clerks – Support Barb Byrum and Justin Roebuck, Michigan Association of County Clerks – Support The following cards were read of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 117: Tim Ward, Secure Elections Project – Support There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
