BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7840 FAX: (517) 373-3932 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES May 15, 2019 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources was scheduled for Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at 8:30 a.m., in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SR 49 (Sen. McBroom). 2. Testimony regarding SB 37 (Sen. VanderWall). The Chairman called the meeting to order at 8:32 a.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chairman McBroom, Sen.(s) Bumstead, Outman, Schmidt, and McCann, a quorum was present. The Chairman invited the committee to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. The Chairman entertained a motion from Sen. Bumstead to adopt the committee meeting minutes from April 24, 2019. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chairman summarized SR 49 for the committee. The Chairman read the card of the individual not wishing to present testimony regarding SR 49: Thomas Gilpin, Michigan Sierra Club – oppose. Testifying remotely from Baraga County, Michigan, the Chairman invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SR 49: Mike Koskinen read a statement submitted by the Baraga County Board of Commissioners in support of SR 49. Jeffrey Loman, member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community – oppose. Member questions followed. Chris Schwartz, President, Keweenaw Bay Indian Community - oppose. Jane Kahkonen, Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Air Quality Specialist – oppose. Member questions followed. The Chairman recognized Director Clark of the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy was in attendance. The Chairman invited Sen. VanderWall to summarize SB 37 for the committee. The Chairman invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 37: Sharon Sikkenga, Citizen – support. Rick Johnson, Citizen – support. Member questions followed. Greg Bird, Michigan Vegetable Council – support. Member questions followed. Paul Sikkenga, Citizen – support. Larry and Ken Westmaas, Citizens – support. Mark Bartholomew, Citizen – support. The Chairman invited the following individual to present testimony remotely from Baraga County, Michigan: Jordan Hoover, Citizen – support. The Chairman invited the following individuals to present testimony remotely from Escanaba, Michigan: Dale McNamee, Citizen – support. Al Ettenhoffer, UP White Tails & UP Sportsmen’s Alliance – support. Dave Johnson, Citizen – support. The Chairman read the cards of those individuals not wishing to present testimony regarding SB 37: Ed Beckley, M-65 Bait Shop – support. Andrew Vermeesch, Michigan Farm Bureau – oppose.
