BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7840 FAX: (517) 373-3932 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES May 21, 2019 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Oversight was scheduled for Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at 2:00 p.m., in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Presentation from Dr. Agustin V. Arbulu, Director of the Michigan Department of Civil Rights. The Chairman called the meeting to order at 2:03 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chairman McBroom, Sen.(s) Lucido, MacDonald, and Irwin, a quorum was present. The Chairman invited the committee to recite the Pledge of Alliance. The Chairman recognized Sen. Runestad was in attendance for the meeting. At 2:04 p.m., Sen. Theis entered the meeting. The Chairman summarized the days meeting as a continuation of the Committees presentations on hate crimes in Michigan. The Chairman invited Dr. Agustin V. Arbulu, Director of the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, and Daniel Levy, Director of Law and Policy, Michigan Department of Civil Rights, to give the committee a presentation regarding background on the Department’s basis incident reporting process and the Michigan Alliance Against Hate Crimes. Questions from members followed. At 2:57 p.m., Sen.(s) Theis and MacDonald left the meeting. At 3:11 p.m.,, Sen. Lucido left the meeting. There being no further business before the committee, the Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. Irwin to adjourn the meeting.
