BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-1636 FAX: (517) 373-1453 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES May 22, 2019 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Elections was scheduled for Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at 1:45 p.m., in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported SB 117 (S-1) (Sen. Johnson) with recommendation and immediate effect. 2. Reported SB 297 (Sen. Wojno) with recommendation and immediate effect. The Chair called the meeting to order at 1:48 p.m. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Johnson, Sen.(s) McBroom, Lucido, VanderWall, and Wojno, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. McBroom to adopt the meeting minutes from May 8, 2019. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair brought up the (S-1) version of SB 117 that was adopted during the May 8, 2019 committee meeting. The Chair invited Sen. Barrett to provide testimony regarding SB 117 and SB 297. The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 117 and SB 297: Alia Phillips, Michigan League of Conservation Voters – Support Bill Zaagman, Michigan Association of County Clerks and Michigan Association of Municipal Clerks – Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Lucido to report the (S-1) version of SB 117 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Johnson, Sen.(s) Lucido, VanderWall, and Wojno Page 1 of 2 Nays: None Pass: Sen. McBroom The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair made a motion to recommend immediate effect for SB 117 (S-1). Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Wojno to report SB 297 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Johnson, Sen.(s) Lucido, VanderWall, and Wojno Nays: None Pass: Sen. McBroom The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair made a motion to recommend immediate effect for SB 297. Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
