BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2426 FAX: (517) 373-2964 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES May 22, 2019 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Families, Seniors, and Veterans was scheduled for Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at 3:00 p.m., in the 1200 Room of the Binsfeld Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported SB 118 (S-1) (Sen. Daley) with recommendation and immediate effect. The Chairman called the meeting to order at 3:01 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chairman Bizon, Sen.(s) Barrett, Runestad, Johnson, Zorn, Bullock, and Alexander; a quorum was present. The Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. Johnson to adopt the meeting minutes from May 15, 2019. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chairman invited Sen. Daley to summarize SB 118. The Chairman invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 118: Kim Muller, Michigan Blue Start Families of Lapeer County – Support The Chairman read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 118: Jenita Moore, Michigan Office of the Secretary of State – Support Due to time constraints, the following individuals were unable to present testimony regarding SB 118: Lisa Marshke, Blue Star Plate – Support Lori Thueme, Blue Star Mothers – Support The Chairman offered an (S-1) substitute to SB 118. The Chairman summarized the (S-1) version of SB 118. The Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. Bullock to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 118. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chairman Bizon, Sen.(s) Barrett, Runestad, Johnson, Zorn, Bullock, and Alexander Nays: None. Page 1 of 2 The motion prevailed and the substitute was adopted. The Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. Barrett to report SB 118 (S-1) to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chairman Bizon, Sen.(s) Barrett, Runestad, Johnson, Zorn, Bullock, and Alexander Nays: None. The motion prevailed and the bill was adopted. The Chairman moved to recommend immediate effect for SB 118 (S-1). Without objection, immediate effect was recommended.
