BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7670 FAX: (517) 373-5958 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES May 23, 2019 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety was scheduled for Thursday, May 23, 2019, at 8:00 a.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 341 (Sen. Lucido). 2. Testimony regarding SB 342 (Sen. Lucido). The Chairman called the meeting to order at 8:04 a.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chairman Lucido, Sen.(s) VanderWall, Barrett, Johnson and Runestad, a quorum was present. The Chairman moved to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen.(s) Chang and Irwin were excused from the meeting. The Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. VanderWall to adopt the meeting minutes from May 14, 2019. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chairman summarized SB 341. The following individuals were invited to presented testimony regarding SB 341: Trooper Nicole McGhee, Michigan State Police – Oppose 1st Lt. Fitzgerald, Michigan State Police – Oppose Jeremy Slavish, Michigan State Police – Oppose Angela Yankowski, Michigan State Police – Oppose Kimberly Buddin, American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan – Support At 8:28 a.m., Sen. Irwin entered the meeting. The following cards were read of those individuals not wishing to present testimony regarding SB 341 and SB 342: Blaine Koops, Michigan Sheriffs Association – Oppose Stephanie Johnson, Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police – Oppose Noah Smith, Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan – Support The Chairman summarized SB 342. The following individuals were invited to presented testimony regarding SB 342: Jeremy Slavish, Michigan State Police – Oppose Angela Yankowski, Michigan State Police – Oppose Kimberly Buddin, American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan – Support The Chairman moved to adjourn the meeting.
